These earn their keep in harvests, and they all share one non-negotiable: full sun. Under six hours, fruiting vegetables sulk. All four run higher on the effort scale because harvest and succession-sowing are weekly jobs.
Raised bed
Raised beds are the beginner’s shortcut past bad native soil: you build a frame, fill it with a controlled soil mix, and skip years of amending clay or sand. Then time — if you have under an hour a week, cross off cottage, formal, potager, and tropical and stay in the low-effort column.
