In the United States, reliable outdoor lychee production is limited to USDA zones 10 and 11, with zone 9b workable if the planting site offers good frost protection and temperatures rarely drop below 30°F. South Florida, Hawaii, and coastal areas of Southern California where marine air moderates winter temperatures are the primary growing regions.
