About Blooming Expert

Blooming Expert is a plant-care library for home gardeners in the United States. It holds more than 4,600 growing guides and more than 15 free garden tools, all written for USDA hardiness zones and cited to university extension research.

Who is behind Blooming Expert

The site is edited and published under the editorial direction of Marzena Rewers, a horticulturist with 25 years of professional experience. Her own gardens, from variegated monstera cuttings to a fussy orchid collection and at least one lavender bed that did not make it, shape what the site covers and how problems are explained. Failures get written up alongside successes, because knowing why a plant died is the fastest way to keep the next one alive.

What we publish and why

Most gardening advice online repeats the same three sentences about “well-drained soil” and “bright indirect light”. We try to explain the mechanism underneath: why overwatering kills through root hypoxia rather than “too much water”, why misting does not raise humidity for more than a few minutes, or why a pepper plant drops its flowers when nights stay above 75°F. Once you understand the mechanism, you can fix problems the guide did not anticipate.

Every guide is zone-specific. A planting date that works in Georgia is wrong in Minnesota, so we give dates, cultivars and winter-protection advice by USDA zone rather than as national averages.

Our sourcing policy

Guides cite their sources in a list at the end of each article. We rely on:

  • University extension services such as NC State, Purdue, Iowa State, University of Minnesota, Clemson, Penn State and University of Maryland
  • The Royal Horticultural Society and botanic gardens such as Kew and Missouri Botanical Garden
  • Peer-reviewed plant science, cited with a link to the paper wherever one is publicly readable

We do not cite other gardening blogs, forum posts or product listings as sources of fact. Where research is genuinely unsettled, the guide says so rather than picking a side.

How the guides are made

Guides are drafted with AI research and writing tools. Since October 2026, every new guide is checked claim by claim against its cited sources before it is published, and older guides are being re-checked the same way. Marzena Rewers holds editorial responsibility for everything on the site: if a guide is wrong, that is on us, not on the software, and we fix it.

Corrections

If a guide contains an error, a broken link or an outdated recommendation, please tell us through the contact page. Corrections are made in the article itself, and the “Updated on” date at the top of the guide changes so you can see it was revised.

How the site is funded

Blooming Expert is free to read and is supported by advertising. Ads never influence which plants we recommend or what a guide says. Where a guide links to a product, the recommendation comes first and the link second.

Free garden tools

Alongside the guides we build interactive tools: a raised bed soil calculator, frost date calculator, companion planting matcher, watering calculator, compost recipe builder and more. They are free, need no sign-up and run in your browser.

Who runs the site

Blooming Expert is published by ZILIO Marzena Rewers, a company registered in Poland, and is written for the US gardening audience. Full company details are on the terms and conditions page. You can reach us at info@bloomingexpert.com.
